2017 Christmas in Mexico

#2  Las Posadas-- Dec. 16-25 Nine consecutive nights groups of family and friends re-enacting searching a place for Mary and Joseph. Seeking shelter.

#1 The main religion in Mexico is Catholic.

#2 Whose birthday is celebrated December 25? While the exact date of the birth of Jesus is not known.  Tradition has it celebrated on Dec. 25th. According to the Christian Bible, Mary and Joseph were Jesus' earthly parents. #3  Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th many people attend church services to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

# 4 El nacimiento= the birth of Jesus # 4  El nacimiento= the birth of Jesus. Nativity sets are displayed inside homes or outdoors in yards and churches.

#5 When is Jesus figure added to the Nativity?

#6 Piñata A large and colorful party decoration made of paper mache.  It is hungs up and children are blindfolded and given a stick to WACK at it. The piñata contains:  assorted items like nuts, fruits and wrapped candies.

# 7 Lumanarias or faroles A small bonfire or lit candles in paper bags. Also called faroles, used during LAS POSADAS to light a path to a house.
