A Christmas Carol By: Charles Dickens

Background Written by Charles Dickens Published in 1843 A Christmas Carol is considered a novella – a work longer than a short story, but shorter than a novel. He wrote A Christmas Carol to draw attention to the poor people in England (where Dickinsen lived). This novella highlights the hardships of the poor at Christmas time and the importance of happiness and generosity. (Dickinsen’s family was poor – his father was sent to prison for not being able to pay debts.) Each chapter of this novella is referred to as a “stave.” A musical term – indicates a specific section of music Here, a stave simply refers to chapters in this novella…
