Place Value By Mrs. Hicks

What is place value? Place value tells us what value each number has because of its place or position in any number. Let’s look at some examples….

If you said “4,” you were right! Example #1 Which numeral is in the tens place? 3 4 7 Tens Hundreds Ones If you said “4,” you were right! 4 = 4 tens or 40

If you said “6,” you were right! Example #2 Which numeral is in the hundreds place? 6 9 2 Hundreds Tens Ones If you said “6,” you were right! 6 = 6 hundreds or 600

If you said “1,” you were right! Example #3 Which numeral is in the ones place? 5 8 1 Ones If you said “1,” you were right! 1 = 1 one or 1

Let’s see if you can do this… 6 5 What is the place value of each numeral? 5 = 5 hundreds or 500 6 = 6 tens or 60 = 0 ones or 0
