Science 10 – Unit 2 – Weather Dynamics Textbook Pages 2-91

Curriculum Outcomes How are changes in the hydrosphere and atmosphere observed and measured. What energy sources drives the Water Cycle. Heat energy, its transfer, and Weather Dynamics – Is there a connection? What is the evidence for movement of heat energy and matter in global systems. Accurate weather forecasting – What is its impact. http://www.ednet.ns.ca/pdfdocs/curriculum/science10.pdf

Unit Breakdown This unit will consist of 2 projects, in class assignments, homework (both handouts and reading/questions from the textbook), outdoor labs (weather depending) and a unit test. Each unit in Science 10 is around 4-4.5 weeks – so our unit test will be the week of Nov 10th. Please keep this in mind as we are going through topics. Due dates for assignments will be posted on the front of my webpage, so make sure you check regularly, especially if you miss class time.

Unit Project 1 Weather Scrapbook This project will be due towards the end of the unit, date TBA. This can be done individually or done with a partner, but be aware more work will be required if you work with someone else. An outline to the project will be posted on my website in a few days, and a rubric will follow shortly after so you know how you will be marked. Please let me know by Friday, October 17th if you will be working alone or with someone. Your scrapbook will include weather related articles from several sources such as newspapers, magazines, websites, and more, written entries by you about our current weather, pictures of weather related events, etc. This will be in the outline – but the above is to give you a general idea of the types of things that will be included.

Unit Project 2 Weather Disaster Project This can be done individually or in a group of up to 4 people, but be aware more work will be required if you work with more people. An outline will be posted on my website in a few days. There will be sign up sheets to pick when you would like to present this project to the class; this will be available on Monday, October 20th in class. Please let me know by Friday, October 17th if you will be working alone or with a group. On Monday we will draw for topics.

Unit Vocabulary This will be the same concept as with Unit 1. Words will be posted on the Unit Vocabulary board - don’t leave them until the last minute! This will be passed in on the day of your unit test, and all words and definitions are to be hand written. For today’s class, you will work with a partner to complete an intro activity. We will go over this the last 10 minutes of class. No cheating please! When you are finished, work with a partner to read over the “What You Should Recall’ sections and try and answer as many questions as you can. Pages 4-7. You may use your phone or textbook to help you.
