How MDOC Gets the word out CIT International Conference

First off why do we need to get the word out?

Why do we need to get the word out? So people know what CIT is To take away the stigma that they will not be able to do their job anymore To inform them that this is just to sharpen the tools they already have and use To help soften and change the mindset of this is how we have always done business To hopeful get people excited about something that could make their job easier Other reasons to get the word out?

How mdoc gets the word out Word of mouth DOCOTA Module CIT Overview class

Word of mouth People who have taken the class Supervisors who have been informed of the class and who support it People that have seen it work on the job

DOCOTA Module Department of Corrections Online Training Academy Self paced training Get one hour of training credit Gives history of why we have such a high population of individuals with mental health under out care and custody Gives history of where CIT came from and how and why it was built How to activate a CIT member And how to become one if interested

CIT overview class 7 hour class 8 hours of training credit ( 1hr DOCOTA, 7hr overview) Must complete DOCOTA before coming to Overview class They get a condensed version of our 40 hour program Some information on mental health portions they will get in complete program Experience the hearing voices portion Very small experience of the scenario training Small portion of Self care

How good has this worked for us CIT Pilot class was presented in our central region in April of 2016 Released to our 3 regional training centers in approximately August of 2016 Was held twice a year in each region from August of 2016 to December of 2017 And held once a quarter in each region so far in 2018 As of July 1, 2018 548 custody staff members have been trained our 40 hour program. 66 Probation and Parole officers have been trained by community CIT programs Our directors goal would be for all of our staff to be CIT trained
