What are the Issues that our class is concerned about? Abortion – 8 Gay Rights – 5 Death Penalty- 4 immigration, marijuana use/drugs, animal rights, political protests, internet censorship

How do we benefit from studying contemporary issues? Does it help humanity cope and progress, or just make us more aggravated and unhappy? Will we be able to resolve any difficult questions? Does everyone need to be concerned about the controversial issues of our day?

The Financial Crisis of the 2000s The financial crisis was triggered by a complex interplay of valuation and liquidity problems in the United States banking system in [3][4] The bursting of the U.S. housing bubble, which peaked in 2007, caused the values of securities tied to U.S. real estate pricing to plummet, damaging financial institutions globally. [5][6] Questions regarding bank solvency, declines in credit availability and damaged investor confidence had an impact on global stock markets, where securities suffered large losses during 2008 and early Economies worldwide slowed during this period, as credit tightened and international trade declined. [7] Governments and central banks responded with unprecedented fiscal stimulus, monetary policy expansion and institutional bailouts. Although there have been aftershocks, the financial crisis itself ended sometime between late-2008 and mid [8][9][10]liquidityUnited States [3][4]housing bubblesecuritiesreal estate pricing [5][6]solvencystock markets [7]central banksfiscal stimulusmonetary policy [8][9][10]
