Different aspects from European cities CIVITAS PROSPERITY Supporting local and national authorities to improve the quality and uptake of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans Session C4 - Smart collaboration - finding common interests  Innovations for SUMP Different aspects from European cities

Definition A Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) … Is a strategic plan to satisfy the mobility needs in cities for a better quality of life Builds on existing planning practices Takes due consideration of integration, participation, and evaluation principles

What turns an urban mobility plan into a sustainable urban mobility plan? A Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) aims to create an urban transport system by… Enabling all residents access to key destinations and services Improving safety and security Reducing harmful emissions and noise Improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transportation Enhancing the attractiveness and quality of the urban environment Linking to related fields of activities such as land use planning or health Cooperating across administrative borders

Why are innovations important for SUMP? More attractive and interesting (e.g. for cities that either didn’t assess SUMP so far as something of value for them even though a lot of promotion activities tried to convince them), More up-to-date (e.g. further developments for cities that have already a SUMP in first or second generation) More effective Higher quality (e.g. in countries where SUMPs are obligatory to receive money for implementation but the SUMP is delivered often in a quite low quality only to fulfil the requirement of having such a document)

Innovations for which fields? Policy Thematic Cooperation INNOVATION Service Market Process

The challenge – discussion points What innovative things have you done in your SUMPs already that you are proud of/think you want to showcase (e.g. Uber, MaaS etc.) ? What innovative things do you want to do in your SUMP but are having problems working out how to do?
