Casting By: Stacia Kulakowski The Great Gatsby (2013) -War Veteran- -Old Lifestyle- -For love- -American Dreams- Casting By: Stacia Kulakowski

Daisy Buchanan Michelle Williams as Daisy Buchanan. The appearance is similar to Carey Mulligan. “Despite her beauty and charm..” So, she would have to be beautiful. Gatsby sees her as “pure in a world full of cheats and liars.” So she is associated with the color white. Angel, yet selfish and spoiled. Daisy’s American Dream in The Great Gatsby, wanting her daughter to become a beautiful little fool.

Myrtle Wilson Amy Adams as Myrtle Wilson. Look alike to Isla Fisher. Myrtle is suppose to be in her mid thirties, and Amy is 38. Amy Adams has been in more serious acting roles than Isla Fisher has been in. I think Myrtle’s American Dream is wishing she could become of a higher social class and leave behind the life that she knows she lives in now. Trade George for Tom.

Tom Buchanan Jon Hamm as Tom Buchanan. He has that smug, sexy look that Tom needs to have throughout the film. Powerfully built. His eyes are piercing to look at as if they are holding secrets of his own. Plays in Mad Men, which is a drama series. Good with drama. American Dream: Tom is living it, but is still unhappy. So the American Dream cannot always make you happy. So…what more does Tom Buchanan possibly want?

Nick Carraway Topher Grace as Nick Carraway. Has the appearance of a young man. Looks like someone who could be a friend to everyone. Has held equal amounts of serious and non serious roles. Nick Carraway explains his American Dream in chapter 9 of the book by saying, “the American dream was originally about discovery, individualism, and the pursuit of happiness” That is what he is still after.

George Wilson Matthew Perry as George Wilson. Exhausted owner of auto shop. I could see Matthew playing someone being exhausted because he was married to Monica in Friends, so he was an “exhausted” character already. Has quirks when he acts that I feel could add a lot to the character. Simple dream- unlike the others, he wants a simple life with his wife. To begin a family and have a good stable job. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Jordan Baker Julianne Hough as Jordan Baker. Petite. Short hair. Picture: Can be equally beautiful and tomboyish at the same time. She is a newcomer actress just like Elizabeth Debicki. Always nice to get newcomers for costar roles. American Dream- Jordan is seeking excitement in her life. She doesn’t want to just be wealthy and bored. She wants to have fun, and find a way to be content with her life without purely just money.

Jay Gatsby Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby. Couldn’t pick anyone better. Handsome young man. No one really knows where he comes from, or how he made his wealth. And Leonardo has that mysterious appeal and look to him. American Dream- Perfect example of the American Dream “poor to rich” tale. Also, Gatsby is in love with the idea of being in love with Daisy. He sees her as what he wants to see her as and that person goes along great with who he is presented like to the world. He is in love with the perfect idea.
