IN THE BEGINNING….. CHILD NUTRITION DIRECTOR APPLIED FOR A USDA GRANT ONLY 25 SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA WERE AWARDED THE FRUIT AND VEGETABLE GRANT ONLY ONE SCHOOL PER SYSTEM COULD BE CHOSEN SAMSON ELEMENTARY WAS THE FIRST SCHOOL IN GENEVA COUNTY TO WIN THE GRANT

SAMSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SAMSON ELEMENTARY WAS AWARDED $26, 663.33 TO SPEND ON FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES FOR GRADES K-6

GORILLA VISITED CLASSROOMS OUR FIRST DISTRIBUTION TOOK PLACE THE SECOND WEEK OF SCHOOL AND EVERY STUDENT RECEIVED A BANANA FROM THE FRIENDLY GORILLA “MR LUCAS PRESLEY”

AND IN THE END…… WE WILL CONTINUE TO FEATURE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THRU MAY WE HAVE AN INSERVICE WITH THE SYSCO PRODUCE BUYER A TOUR OF SAMSON ELEMENTARY KITCHEN TO SEE FIRST HAND HOW WE RECEIVE AND PREPARE THE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES….AND THEIR MEALS

IN CONCLUSION…… A NEW GRANT APPLICATION MUST BE FILED WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT FOR NEXT YEAR AWARDING OF THE GRANT WILL BE MORE COMPETITIVE THIS YEAR OTHER GENEVA COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN ADDITION TO SAMSON ELEMENTARY MUST BE CONSIDERED WHEN APPLYING
