Ross Thompson reminds us that it is critical to achieve the correct balance of focus between weapons systems and business processes. The SFL teams create the weapon system focus – the functional centers assure the process focus. Also when we briefed Ross, he provided us lessons they learned through the “TACOM of the Future” initiative – we’re studying their experiences. The SFL teams are the executing elements – where true integration occurs. One size doesn’t fit all – will tailor to fit life cycle and situation CH 47 is our pilot -- doing it carefully, using a lean process focused approach, will use the same approach with the staff The staff will assist the Command Group – expand situational awareness, like any good staff, and provide coordination support on actions that cross product lines. We’re working on identification of common functions which can be consolidated at the HQ level, to further enhance PEO staffs ability to focus on mission CofS works for me and the three deputies – a busy guy!! From an Army Organizational structure view probably the best analogy is works to look at AMCOM as a Division, with a Command Group, Coordinating, Personal and Special staffs. The SFL teams are our maneuver Brigades and the Functional Centers and Directorates are our CS and CSS slice.
