Trends in the Periodic Table
Periodic Trends. Periodic Trends Overview For each of the four trends (atomic radius, ionization energy, reactivity, electronegativity) You need to know:
When the elements are arranged on the Periodic Table, certain characteristics of atoms show trends within the groups and periods. These trends are observed.

Electronegativity

Electronegativity What is it? The attraction of an atom to gain an electron.

Electronegativity -Looking back at the picture, what is the general trend as you move down a group? -Across a period from left to right?

Ionization Energy

Ionization Energy What is it? The energy an atom needs to remove an electron from another atom.

Ionization Energy -Looking back at the picture, what is the general trend as you move down a group? -Across a period from left to right?

Atomic Radius

Atomic Radius What is it? The relative size of an atom.

Atomic Radius -Looking back at the picture, what is the general trend as you move down a group? -Across a period from left to right?

Ionic Radius

Ionic Radius What is it? The size of an ion.

Ionic Radius Notice any patterns? List them…..
