14-19 and 19+ require distinct qualifications DfE view that the new Framework provision for young people is not suitable Grading is essential for inclusion in performance tables If qualifications don’t count towards performance tables, will you offer them in the future?? The successor to UCAS system (suspended) will be an important factor in future learner and provider demand

Hair and Beauty Qualifications Qualifications that have been approved by DfE for GCSE equivalencies Choices for current Year 9 learners: City & Guilds Level 2 Principal Learning In Hair & Beauty Studies 1 GCSE A* - C grade The new qualifications have been added to 3001. the original qualifications are still in place. These new qualifications have been added as a direct response to centres to allow more progression and choice for learners. The new larger diplomas are too big for the pre 16 market but allow a new starting point for full time learners. The new diploma qualifications have new titles which appeal to some centres and learners as they are certificated with the above titles and not introduction into the hair and beauty sector. The new certificates allow for progression in specific areas. These are suitable for the pre 16 market Level 4 has been developed to incorporate 4 pathways and a whole host of single unit awards which can be offered of progression and CPD © CITY & GUILDS

September 2014 City & Guilds Technical Award in Business Enterprise within the Hair and Beauty sector (pre-16) (120 GLH) (SSA 15.3 And: City & Guilds Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies (pre-16) (120 GLH) (SSA 7.3)

Give us some feedback........ 1.      What learners do you see being able to achieve this qualification? 2.      Are there any aspects of the content for delivery that you find problematic? 3.      Is the assessment manageable in your centre? 4.      What changes would you like to see?

Implications- Employers Employers are seen by the Government as critical for the success of these reforms. Employers will become the direct purchasers of apprenticeship and adult training not our centres Evidence of direct employer involvement in the design and assessment of all vocational qualifications is expected and, in the case of the new apprenticeship qualifications, essential. The reformed 16-19 level 3 qualifications, endorsed by and developed with employers, will form the substantive part of the new 16-19 study programmes Any Questions?
