Confederate States of America (CSA) Formed Feb. 1861 Jefferson Davis-President Alexander Stephens-Vice President Georgia (2nd) leaves the Union Jan 1861. United States of America (USA/Union) Abraham Lincoln-President Hannibal Hamlin/Andrew Johnson Vice President.

April 10 1861, CSA ordered the surrender Of Fort Sumter S.C General Pierre G.T Beauregard was in charge of confederate Army. Robert Anderson tried to defend the bay but lost April 12. Fort Pulaski (Sav.) Jan 3, 1861 fell to the Confederates. Troops plus supplies gathered. Ar,Tenn,Nc,Va,Sc,Ga,Fl,Miss,La,Tx

The confederate capital was moved from Montgomery Al. To Richmond Va. The union capital was Washington D.C South-population 9 million (3 1/2 million was slaves) North-population 22 million Well trained army, industry, RR, Both thought the war would be over fast and they would win.

Georgia’s Role? -Alexander Stephens from Crawfordville was Vice President of the C.S.A. -Robert Tombs from Washington was Secretary of State for the C.S.A. In four years there were 2,261 battles. Most fought in the south, most named streams or towns I
