SMART format Specific What exactly do you want to accomplish? Who, what, where, why? Measurable How will you know you have achieved the goal? What is Point A (now) and Point B (“destination”)? Attainable Is the goal challenging? What is the action-oriented verb? Relevant Is the goal worthwhile? Does the goal fit with your short and long term plans? Time-bound When will you achieve your goal? Are there dates that you want to achieve steps toward your goal?

What is a SMART goal? YES NO I want do better in school. S - I want to be on the ABC list for the third quarter. M – ABC list requires: 3.5 GPA or higher 4 and higher citizenship No Level 2 referrals A – I currently have a 2.9 GPA, only one 3 for citizenship, and no Level 2 referrals. R – This goal will make me a better student in all my classes. T – end of third quarter I want do better in school.
