Presentation transcript:

What does it mean to be an American? Artist Sheila Pree Bright asked a group of students to answer that question. She then gave them an American flag and asked them to pose with the flag in a way that expressed how they feel to be an American in the 21st century.

Assignment I will go back through the photographs. Pick the one that spoke to you the most, had the strongest statement to make, or the one that you really liked just because. I want you to do an in-role writing. You are going to become the person in the picture. Tell me their story. Tell me why they chose to pose with the flag the way they did. What experiences did they go through to bring them up to the point in their picture. Be creative. Think outside the box. Remember the discussions on American culture, diversity, prejudice, racism, and sexism. You can create a name, place of birth, history, etc. Try for a full page. You may go over if you need to.
