Who is teaching my child? Graduated from the University of Mary Washington Master of Education Bachelor of Science in Biology Taught in VA Licensed in Biology Spent 3 years as the Lab Specialist at Germanna Community College

How can I contact you with questions or concerns 1st Step- Please email me Email- STANFASL@PWCS.EDU 2nd Step- Most questions or concerns can be addressed over email, however a phone conversation my be necessary to address everything. Phone- 571-374-6550 (Colgan general number)

How is my child’s grade calculated ? Summative Assessments (80%) Tests Labs Formative Assessments (20%) Homework/Classwork Quizzes

What if my child forgets to turn in his/her work? I accept late work up to the day of the unit exam

What if my child wants to improve their grade? Can retake or redo all summative assessments – TESTS & LABS Must complete all formative assignments Must complete a review sheet or assignment to show understanding before retake Extra credit is not necessary

My child needs help, do you stay after school? Monday OFF (Meetings) Tuesday 2:15- 3:15 By appointment

My child is struggling in class, how can I help him/her? Create a quiet place for your child to work and make it an expectation that he/she study. Review the notes with your child and check for mastery by quizzing him/her.

Quizlet – electronic flashcards Create flashcards with the vocabulary word on front and the definition on back Quizlet – electronic flashcards Check homework for completion (A lot of the times they just forget to do it.)

Outdoor labs We do go outside sometimes I will let students know ahead of time to wear the appropriate clothing and shoes

Dissection? (Biology only) Yes, we may be dissecting this yearr! I instruct students that they don’t have to actually touch the organism, but I do ask that they take part in the dissection. Dissection is important tool in learning the inner workings of the human body. Most college science courses require dissection. It is a good idea to be exposed to dissection before college.
