Intro to word 2007 More Basics

Getting Started launch Word Ctrl + O to open a file navigate to your directory go to comp_lit folder double-click 02test

Selecting All Ctrl + A to select all

Increase / Decrease Font Size Ctrl + ] (right bracket) increases font size Ctrl + [ (left bracket) decreases font size

Font Dialog Box Ctrl + D to access font dialog box type the letter “t” double-click Times New Roman

Styles Ctrl + Home type: Word 2007 hit Enter highlight Word 2007 on Home Tab, in Styles group, hover over different styles to preview choose Title style

Bullets and Numbers Bullets Numbers use for unordered lists use for ordered lists

Adding Bullets Ctrl + End to go to end Enter for new paragraph Type: “Red” then Enter “Blue” then Enter “Green” Highlight three colors Right-click selection Click Bullets

Adding Numbers Ctrl + End to go to end Enter three times for new paragraph Right-click on last line Click Numbering

Type: “Right on Wolf Rd.” then Enter “Right on North Ave.” then Enter “Right on Railroad St.”

Increase / Decrease Indent highlight three directions click increase indent icon in paragraph group on Home tab on ribbon

Undo and Redo Undo Redo reverses previous commands Ctrl + Z Redo reverses your reversal Ctrl + Y

Undo and Redo hold down Ctrl hit Z key four times reverses last four commands hit Y key three times redoes last three reversed commands

Paragraph Spacing helps space out paragraphs without using blank lines

Space Before / After Paragraphs Ctrl + A to select all on Page Layout tab, in Paragraph group change spacing to: Before: 0 pt After: 6 pt

Line Spacing used to increase readability and allow for comments from bosses or teachers

Change Line Spacing Ctrl + A to select all Ctrl + 5 to change to 1.5 spacing Ctrl + 1 to change to single spacing Ctrl + 2 to change to double spacing

First-line Indentation first line of paragraph is offset from rest of paragraph usually .5 inches helps identify beginning of new paragraph

Create a First Line Indent position the cursor at beginning of first paragraph hit the Tab key repeat for paragraphs two and three

Indenting a Paragraph moves entire paragraph away from margin used to make paragraph stand out from others used for parenthetical quotations

Indent a Paragraph click in second paragraph hit increase indent icon, in paragraph group, on Home tab, on Ribbon

Find and Replace find or replace particular word or phrase in document

Find and Replace in new paragraph, type the following: Monica is from Easton. She lives on the east side of town. Her daughter attends Eastern High School. select entire phrase choose Home tab click Replace in Editing group Find and Replace dialog box appears.

Find and Replace Find what: East Replace with: West Replace All No. Do not check rest of document Close dialog box

Align Paragraphs left align right align center justify Ctrl + L Ctrl + R center Ctrl + E justify

Hanging Indents indents all lines in paragraph except first line

Hanging Indents highlight last paragraph launch paragraph dialog box create special, hanging indent

Insert Clip Art on Insert tab choose Clip Art Search for: school bus click picture to insert change Text Wrapping to behind text resize from corners only

Page Orientation Portrait Landscape height is larger than width width is larger than height

Page Orientation go to Page Layout tab switch orientation from portrait to landscape

Page Size if using different sized paper go to Page Layout tab review the different sizes available do not change size

Margins control the amount of “white space” around edges of documents on Page Layout tab click Margins icon choose Narrow

Page Breaks forces text to appear on new page Ctrl + Enter

Page Breaks position cursor before “Bob has a large blue house.” hold down Ctrl press Enter release Ctrl

Headers and Footers text that appears in the margin on all pages can be different on first page header at top footer at bottom

Headers on Insert tab click Header choose blank Ctrl + R to right align type your name page down to Footer

Footer with Page Number Ctrl + E to center click Page Number icon current position, plain number close header and footer

Printing Ctrl + P to see print dialog box choose proper printer
