The Students of Haverford High School Introducing: The Students of Haverford High School

Where is Haverford High School? Historic section of Philadelphia Where is Haverford High School? Liberty Bell Haverford High School is a public secondary school located in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Our town is seven miles west of Philadelphia, and we are located almost half-way between New York City and Washington, D.C. Philadelphia is a town of historical importance to people in the United States because Philadelphia was the location of our first capital before it moved to Washington, D.C. You will find the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin’s grave, Independence Hall (where the U.S. Constitution was written), and many other historic sites in Philadelphia. Independence Hall

Havertown is in Haverford Township Havertown Library Havertown is in Haverford Township Havertown is located in the southeast portion of the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is known as the “Keystone State” because a number of pivotal events happened in Pennsylvania that were important to the development of the United States. Pennsylvania was the second state to ratify the Constitution of the United States. Pennsylvania is home to many colleges and universities. It is also a state that is known for its agriculture because of the many farms that can be found in the middle of the state. Havertown, where our school is located, is a suburb of Philadelphia and is home to about 48,500 people. Havertown has a couple of pizza parlors, restaurants, local shops, a library, and a number of parks.

What is Haverford High School like? Nearly 1,800 students between the ages of 14-18 attend our high school. We attend classes Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. – 2:22 p.m. We begin school in September and end in June. We have about 2 ½ months off during the summer. We have four classes each day, each lasting about 85 minutes. Half-way through our school year, we switch classes and take four new courses. Each year most students take a Literature/writing class (English class), a social studies class, a math class, a science class, a physical education class, and some elective classes. Some students take art courses or technology classes, while others take music or business courses.

Haverford High School Students Our school’s mascot is the first Ford car, the model-T. We are the only school in the United States that has the Ford as its mascot! Our school colors are red and yellow. Students in our school participate in many after school activities. Some students play an instrument in marching band, symphony, or jazz band. Other students participate in athletics like tennis, volleyball, track, football, hockey, cheerleading, and more. Some students also work at our school’s radio station. Our radio station is the oldest high school radio station in the nation!

What do we learn? Ms. Ward is our 10th grade English teacher. In English class we learn about literature from the non-western world. We read stories and poetry from all over Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and Latin and South America. We also learn about grammar and writing skills. We are currently learning about Afghanistan as we read The Kite Runner. We look forward to learning from you!
