Ed Willkie Middle School Camp Goddard Ed Willkie Middle School Cliff SLIDE ONE Hello Everyone. Thanks for coming this evening. I’m Mr. Keathley, I teach sixth grade science here at Ed Willkie Middle School. This will be my third year teaching at Camp Goddard. I always enjoy this night. Because it is a night filled with anticipation and excitement. Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD has been sending students to Camp Goddard for nearly 2 decades. The School Board and District Administration recognizes the wonderful experience that attending Camp Goddard can be. Our School Board fully funds this program, allowing 50 sixth graders from Ed Willkie Middle School to participate annually. This room is filled with the students who qualified this year along with their parents.

Congratulations Top 50 6th Graders Grade Point Average Science Test Citizenship You have qualified to attend Camp Goddard. Cliff To the students who are sitting here. Congratulations! You have earned, the privilege of attending Camp Goddard. Your grade point average, science test score, and citizenship were all considered.   Parents, these are students that you can be proud of. These students have excelled in their sixth grade year, a year that is tough for many. The success that they are able to achieve here at Ed Willkie will be a solid foundation for the transition into High School.

Camp Goddard Located near Sulphur, Oklahoma Science Environmental Camp facilities Hands on learning environment Dan So what is this Camp Goddard? Camp Goddard is an environmental camp facility located on Lake of the Arbuckles near Sulphur Ok. I’m going to quickly take you through the activities of Camp Goddard. When I’m done you should have a better understanding of the experience. We hike for about three hours everyday and we also participate in activities such as canoeing and fishing. In addition, since it is a science camp we participate in daily lab activities as well.

Luggage Drop Off Cliff Activities actually start the Sunday before we leave. We leave on Monday at 7:45 am. So we all don’t have to show up at 5 in the morning to pack the truck, we have students drop off their luggage on Sunday. Luggage drop off will be between 2-3pm on Sunday March 19. Then the teachers load the luggage and instructional materials onto the truck. Students help with unloading and loading the rest of the trip. Students also need to understand that they will carry their own bags to their cabins.   Students drop their luggage and bedroll off at Ed Willkie on Sunday, March 18th, between 2-3pm. Please be sure your student’s luggage is clearly labeled with his/her name!

Monday Bus Ride Be at Ed Willkie by 7:30am to load up. Bring your pillow, backpack, sack lunch & drink. Rest stop at Oklahoma Border. Lunch at the Chickasaw National Recreation Center. Lucy Monday starts with the bus ride. Students need to be at Ed Willkie Middle School by 7:30 am for boarding. We won’t wait for stragglers. Students should have their pillow, backpack and sack lunch with them. About an hour into the drive we make a rest stop just across the Oklahoma Border. This is a very nice rest stop with large bathroom facilities and vending machines available. We will then head on to camp for lunch and setting up. We provide drinks, students need to bring a sack lunch. No microwave available.

Cafeteria Three hot meals a day Full service cafeteria that offers seconds Food is well received by students Students bus and wipe down their table after each meal. Coach Ward The cafeteria is always a hot topic. We eat three meals a day in the cafeteria. Camp Goddard has a full cafeteria that offers seconds! From all I have seen, the food is very well received by our students. Students also bus and wipe down their own tables after each meal.   We also provide students with a snack for the morning trail hike and a snack with the evening activities. At 3pm students have the opportunity to buy snacks at the canteen. Nobody goes hungry at Camp Goddard. You don’t need to send a lot of snacks with the students. Snacks in the cabin tend to attract insects and rodents. We like to avoid those kinds of cabin mates.

Clean Up Sweep cabins daily Mopping cabins final day Cleaning bathrooms at least once Cleaning the classroom Everyday we budget time for camp clean up. Students are responsible for: sweeping the cabins daily and mopping them on the final day; cleaning the bathroom at least once; cleaning the classroom; and general camp clean up such as picking up trash.

Money The tuition for camp is covered by the district The students will only need money for a snack at the rest stop on the way to camp, 2 or 3 days of canteen where they can purchase 1 drink and 1 snack, the gift shop at the museum, and a snack on the way home We suggest around $25-30 (some in small bills and change for the vending machine) Cliff

Medical Concerns Please supply enough prescription medicines to last the entire week – prescriptions are difficult or impossible to fill over state lines Asthmatics – bring inhalers/medication (we usually don’t have many asthma problems) We carry all necessary first aid equipment along with basic over the counter medicines Coach Wilkins

Behavior Problems Parents will be contacted to arrange transportations home (no matter what time) Cliff

Contacting Camp Phone number at Camp Goddard 580/993-3333 Sending Packages/Mail – send by Thursday or Friday prior if possible 2964 Goddard Youth Camp Rd. Sulphur, OK 73086 A map has been provided in the packet with the student forms. Cliff
