Burrowing Owl By: William

Physical Characteristics The Burrowing Owl can be 7 ½ to 10 inches long, and only weighs SIX OUNCES! That’s 6 strawberries! This owl is brown, black, and white for camoflaudge. This little owl is only 10 inches small! What a small owl!

Lifespan The Burrowing Owl can live 9 Years in captivity or 10 years in the wild.

Eating Habits/Diets The diet of this little owl is consisted of: birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals, moles, and mice. This owl has a big diet!

Population There are less than 10K (10,000) breeding pairs of these owls left on earth. What a sad number!  Imagine these owls going extinct. That would be a very sad thought.

Habitat/Range The Burrowing Owl lives from Mississippi to the Pacific and from the Canadian Prairie Provinces to South America.

Adaptations Beak – Is used for catching prey, stabbing, and eating. Wings – Are for flying to hunt. Talons/Claws – Are for digging, grabbing, and grappling.

Fun Facts! When alarmed, young owls will make a sound that is similar to a Rattle Snake’s “Hissing” call.
