Workshop Two MDI

Goals for this workshop… Set the foundation for moving ideas into action by forming Action Teams Build on ideas generated in Workshop 1 through a series of brainstorming, mapping and discussion activities to categorize and prioritize action ideas. Learn about the Action Planning Workbook and how it can be used to implement your action ideas.

Prepare for Action Planning Agenda Choosing the Focus Idea Generation Priority Setting Relationship Mapping Prepare for Action Planning Looking Forward MDI

Hopes… That we see ourselves (and others) as having the potential to make a positive difference in children’s lives Our conversations and actions are research-based and evidence-informed We capitalize on our collective expertise and wisdom to help make better, deeper sense of child-reported evidence

Consider the influences we can have on… Grade-specific plans School plans District plans Plans for individual organizations Community collaborative initiatives Strategic plans

Focus area themes Focus areas discovered in Workshop 1: 1. 2. 3.

Choosing the focus – Join an Action Team! Choose ONE focus area to join What area are you MOST interested in brainstorming action ideas about?

What makes a successful brainstorm session?

Idea generation – Brainstorm What are actions we can do that may result in an improvement in MDI results for [our chosen focus]?

Idea generation: 3 ways Individually In pairs In groups

Idea generation – Individually Write one idea per sticky note What actions may result in improved MDI results for the chosen focus area?

What’s a different approach? Idea generation – In pairs Join into pairs and share your individual ideas. Merge ideas together. Try to double the amount of ideas together! Write your new ideas on sticky notes. What else could we do? What’s a different approach? If we had endless finances, resources and energy, what else would we do?

Idea generation – In groups Gather together with other pairs and collate your ideas. Stay in these groups for the next activity

Priority setting Sorting squares Use the sorting axis as your visual guide. Review all of the priority ideas you created on the sticky notes and discuss where each idea falls in the sorting square. After discussion and agreement, place the sticky note containing the idea on the quadrant you think it fits best.

Relationship mapping to strengthen partnerships Group 1: Implementation Champions Identify the people that are ready to work on the plan. Group 2: Grow Your Reach Identify the people/organizations that could or should play a role moving forward.

Prepare for action planning Action Planning Workbook Visualizing Your Idea This activity will get your creativity flowing! Take time to draw or map your idea, either individually or as a group. Mapping Connections This activity will deepen your thinking on the connections, not only between actors/champions/organizations, but also the ways in which your idea crosses between multiple environments. Finding Evidence & Seeking Insight This activity will help you further explore your idea and get you to start thinking about the resulting changes that you want your idea to bring.

Prepare for action planning Action Planning Workbook continued. 4. Assessing Risks & Barriers This activity will get you thinking about potential risks/barriers to your idea and the resources you will require to overcome them. 5. Planning for success This activity will help you establish realistic goals for success. 6. What Next? Identifying key steps Give your idea wings! Identify the critical next steps you or your team will have take to get the project or initiatives off the ground.

Looking forward The action that I am most excited about is ________________ The action that I am most unsure about is ________________ The action that I don’t want to lose sight of is ________________ This shows your resonance – let’s celebrate! This speaks to a potential barrier we need to be aware of This will be used as an evaluation check-in item
