DISSECTION EXPLORATION Grasshopper

Defining Traits and Unique Characteristics Antenna Legs Vestigial Wings Eyes Exoskeleton Head Abdomen Thorax Barbs

Feeding Pair of mandibles, and two pairs of maxilla. Mandibles are pinchers responsible for cutting and chewing. Maxilla are responsible for manipulating food.

Surface Area Grasshoppers has spiracle openings that lead to trachea. The trachea has a high surface area in order to take in a high amount of oxygen.

Homeostasis Grasshoppers have a hard exoskeleton. It prevents them from drying out and from water getting in.

Reproduction We determined the sex based off of the size of the ovipositor. Females have larger ovipositors to deposit their eggs, and males have smaller ovipositors. Female Male
