What is it? Academic writing is a big field that usually includes writing an MA or PhD thesis. A monograph or a paper to be submitted to a specialized journal or presented at a conference. Peter Newmark says that: “When dealing with some scientific or technical texts, freedom in translating is not to be allowed.

What is it? “Translators have to change the sentence patterns, make the sentences longer or shorter, paraphrase them or think of the right words in which to translate the idioms and phrases that do not exist in his own language.”
