RELATIONSHIPS COMMUNICATE THE VISION TO ALL Auditing the early years estate by cluster and locality- capacity, demand, infrastructure STAFF Exploring all provision – all year/term time, Patterns of attendance and blended models.- Agree consistent staffing structures to support Questionnaires to all EY settings- local solutions Identified 26 centres for 1140 phase 1 in August Plan Costings – free lunches, revenue and capital THIS YEAR - 1000 CHILDREN EXPERIENCE NEW HOURS –LEARNING WORKFORCE - EELCA Moving forward we face a significant challenge in meeting the Scottish Government’s Early Learning and Childcare expansion of entitlement from 600 hours to 1140 hours by 2020 whilst continuing to provide a high quality service that offers increased flexibility, accessibility and affordability to parents. Estate – Reviewing localities/clusters Audit of existing buildings. Reviewing opportunities for increasing capacity. Types of provision – 1140 is not only school hours. blended models e.g. LA/Partner, LA childminder. Increase the number of settings able to offer all year round. Forest kindergarten in each locality Workforce – Reviewing staffing structures. Increasing qualifications from 32 staff . SG Graduate commitment.

CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT AND PEDAGOGY – Nursery and P1

New ideas – CEC FOREST KINDERGARTENS ? Forest Kindergartens are unique because they offer young children regular play opportunities in woodland and/or a natural setting, throughout the year, in almost all weathers. They are child led, child centred, enhanced through exploration using multiple senses and with an emphasis on risky play. Qualifications and Training Led by -Forest school trained staff Supported by –Forest Kindergarten staff

Why ? – Our Aims our children will learn …. to take risks. confidence, resilience and social skills. qualities in themselves, their abilities and strengths in their own time and individual way. about their bodies and physical needs in different weather. how to keep their bodies warm by wearing appropriate clothing and by eating appropriate food. that by moving and doing activities they won’t feel cold. what they need to maintain energy levels. the importance of keeping fit and active. to develop a sense of space and where they are in the environment. to play and learn Literacy, numeracy and health and well being skills

What you need to get started A ‘bog in a bucket’ offers all Forest Kindergarten participants (including adults) all the comforts of home! Waste is removed in the bucket and disposed of with nappy waste back at nursery. Your toilet tent should be out–with the play boundaries, away from public paths.

What you need to get started A care inspectorate approved hand washing kit, with running water, soap and individual drying towels. Waterproofs and wellies for all weathers , so children can explore nature in comfort.
