Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the language arts classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. What do I get if I follow class rules? When following class and school rules, you will be rewarded a in variety of ways: REP Stamps, candy from Ms. Colacicco, positive note/email/phone call home, homework pass, verbal praise. What are the consequences if I don’t follow class rules? 1. First Offense: verbal warning. 2. Second Offense: tiered classroom strategies. 3. Third Offense: parent contact. 4. Fourth Offense: office referral. *See ECMS student handbook for additional information regarding behavior. Where do I go to find agendas and assignments? On the ECMS website is our class blog. This site will house the weekly agendas, assignment due dates, PDF copies of class handouts, important announcements, and more. alissa.colacicco@cobbk12.org 1

Class progress reports will be sent home every 4 ½ weeks. Parents and students are also strongly encouraged to check ParentVue on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. What do I do if I am absent? Always check the class blog for agendas, handouts, and assignment due dates. Students who miss assignments because of an absence will have an opportunity to make up missed work. Students are given one calendar day for each day absent + one day to turn in the work. It is the student's responsibility to check with the teacher about any make-up work. After a unit is complete, work from that unit will not be accepted (see your teacher for possible opportunities to make up zeros). The language arts department offers free tutoring every Monday morning from 8:15-8:45. You can find the tutoring schedule on the ECMS website or on any teacher’s blog. What are the units of study?
