e. Perform chemical activities (metabolism) f. Contain DNA and are made of one or more cells

Vocabulary stimulus- anything that effects the activity of an organism, organ or tissue. Response- a reaction to a stimulus Metabolism- how an organism uses fuel; the chemical activities that go on in an organism. Asexual reproduction- a single parent produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.

Sexual reproduction- two parents are required to produce offspring that will share characteristics of both parents. homeostasis- the maintenance of a stable internal environment. 7. Ingestion- eating 8. Digestion- breaking down of food from complex to simple substances that the body can use. 9. Excretion- an organisms release of waste materials. 10. Respiration- taking in oxygen and other gases and using them to produce energy.

Sponge List the characteristics of living things. Give an example of each characteristic.

Sponge Classify the following as dead, living, or non-living and give an explanation why: Firewood Tooth (in mouth and out of mouth) Paper Nut

Vocabulary Abiotic- non living things in the environment such as air, water, coal, geological structures, temperature, topography, etc. Biotic- living things in the environment such as plants, animals and microorganisms.
