Split Class Mr. Patterson has created two different ways for you to learn about religion in the Middle East. Option 1 Work with Mr. Patterson. He will help you through each step and there will be little homework. Option 2 Work largely independently. Work with high school level readings. Watch YouTube videos including those by John Greene. INSERT SNIP OF JOHN GREENE.

People have different interpretations… Lutherans Catholics Protestants Baptist Christians

Exit Slip – On Note Card Tomorrow, there are two different options for class. Religion Poster I will synthesis (take different ideas and make them one) information to create a visual representation of a monotheistic religion. Discussion/YouTube Videos I will critique commonly held misconceptions about Islam.

Make an inference, what religion is most common in the Middle East?

Why are these people upset with the United States? People protesting often have valid concerns (dictators, natural resources), however use of religious language/symbols can change peaceful protests to violence. Justified by relgion.

Who are these people. What do they believe Who are these people? What do they believe? The KKK is using religious symbols to justify their racist message.

Global Studies Week Learning Target I will critique (examine closely in order to give judgment on) commonly held misconceptions about Islam. Warm Up What do these two groups have in common? Make sure to discuss how both Groups don’t represent their perspective religions, show west wing clip Show on ELMO how to fill out Warm Up

What do these groups have in common What do these groups have in common? Use religious imagery to justify radical views, do they represent the average person in their religion?

When Donald Trump suggested that we have to stop people coming to the country from Muslim countries, why did some people find it offensive? Actions of a few individuals, using to pass judgement on a larger group.

Global Studies - Week Learning Target I will compare and contrast the three main monotheistic religions. Warm Up Why were some people offended by Trump’s comments and Muslim countries? You can’t take the actions of a few people, and then condemn/judge a larger group. This is hardly the only issue, it also happens when the president talks about immigration. Address what the president’s supporters would say. Identify what research would need to be done in order to justify claims. Show on ELMO how to fill out Warm Up

So why do people join terrorist groups/gangs? Standard of Living/Sense of community
