The High Cost of a Quick Fix Genesis 25:27-35 Hebrews 12:16-17 In selling his birthright for a pot of stew, Esau serves as an example of the high cost of a quick fix. Many follow Esau’s example and allow quick fixes like alcohol, drugs, gambling, gluttony, sexual immorality and easy credit to cost them dearly. Avoid the quick fix! Recognize the deception, practice delayed gratification, exercise self-control and wait on the Lord!

The High Cost of a Quick Fix A “Quick Fix” gives temporary relief for a problem or discomfort but does not provide a permanent solution.

The High Cost of a Quick Fix Christians must guard against developing a quick fix mentality! (Hebrews 12:16-17) Esau is a prime example of the high cost of a quick fix. (Genesis 25:27-35; 26:12-14; cf. Job 42:12)

The Cost of Quick Fixes Alcohol and Drugs bring woe, sorrow, contentions, etc. (Proverbs 23:29-35) Gambling (the love of money) brings “many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10) Gluttony brings poverty (Proverbs 23:20-21; Titus 1:12-13) Sexual Immorality brings misery, death and God’s judgment (Proverbs 7:21-27; Hebrews 13:4) Easy Credit brings poverty (Proverbs 22:26-27)

Principles for Avoiding the Quick Fix Recognize the Deception -- Quick Fixes Don’t Work! They look harmless, but they enslave (Hosea 4:10 -11) Those enslaved wind up paying a cost far greater than first anticipated (Joel 3:3) Quick fixes are rebellion against God (Hosea 7:14) Practice Delayed Gratification (Heb. 11:24-26) Exercise Self-Control (2 Peter 1:6) Trust God rather than the quick fix (Psalm 37:7-9)
