Unit 3 Lesson 3 Circulatory and Respiratory Systems
Why do we need a circulatory system?
(Lub dub, lub dub).  You will need to be able to label the following parts of the circulatory system AND know what their “job” is:  Left and right atrium.
 I can list the functions of the circulatory system.  I can give examples of materials needed by cells to function.  I can give an example of waste.
Functions of the Cardiovascular System Cardiovascular system is also known as the circulatory system Main functions are delivering materials to cells.
Cardiovascular System. Fun Facts!!!  If we looked at all the blood vessels in your body, what would the total length be?  Around the world twice! 

Circulatory and Respiratory Systems Jeopardy! Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

(if playing with white boards) Rules: (if playing with white boards) No buzzards – everyone answers in allotted time, all correct answers will be given points. Answers must be legible and in the form of a question. First to answer correctly gets to pick next category

Don’t let others see your answers Poor sportsmanship will result in loss of points. No shouting out answers No getting upset at other students No copying Don’t let others see your answers

This Is Jeopardy! (Applause)

Carries deoxygenated blood to the heart.

What are veins?

Carries oxygenated blood to the body.

What are arteries?

The smallest blood vessel…. connects veins to arteries.

What are capillaries?

Found in the heart and in veins Found in the heart and in veins. They keep blood from flowing the wrong way.

What are valves?

Our circulatory system is a double system… Our circulatory system is a double system….. the system that is responsible for sending oxygenated blood to the body.

What is systemic circulation?

Also known as the windpipe.

What is the trachea?

Also known as the voice box.

What is the larynx?

Spongy structure that contains the bronchioles and alveoli.

What are lungs?

Dome shaped muscle that contracts and relaxes during breathing.

What is the diaphragm?

The waste product of the respiratory system.

What is carbon dioxide?

Carries oxygen to the body for use in cellular respiration.

What are red blood cells?

Fight infections and disease.

What are white blood cells?

The liquid part of blood that carries nutrients and wastes.

What is plasma?

Stops bleeding by forming clots.

What are platelets?

Transports the blood around the body similar to the function of cellular vesicles.

What are blood vessels?

The two upper chambers of the heart.

What are atria?

The two lower chambers of the heart.

What are ventricles?

From the right ventricle, the blood flows here next.

What is the pulmonary artery?

From the left ventricle, the oxygenated blood flows to this large artery.

What is the Aorta?

Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart in these two veins.

What are the superior and inferior vena cava?

The system responsible for supplying the body with O2 and removing CO2.

What is the respiratory system?

This system transports nutrients, materials, and wastes throughout the body.

What is the circulatory system?

These two, branch off the trachea.

What are bronchi?

Covered with capillaries, where oxygen enters the blood.

What are alveoli?

The process of respiration that allows humans to transform energy from glucose and oxygen….. takes place in this organelle.

What is the mitochondria?
