Water is Weird

Question What is the chemical equation for each of the following: Ice Vapor Liquid Water H2O

Ice, Vapor & Liquid Water Although all 3 substances are physically different, they all have the same chemical composition.

Water Water is made up of… Hydrogen (slight positive charge) Oxygen (slight negative charge) Molecules with oppositely charged regions are called *polar molecules. *This allows for water’s properties of attraction.

Polarity The property of having two opposite poles (pos & neg) Example: A magnet has polarity (a north pole & a south pole). When the 2 ends are brought close together, they attract. In water, this attraction is called a hydrogen bond

*Covalent Bond The bond that forms when electrons are shared Each hydrogen atom shares 1 electron with the oxygen atom which needs 2 electrons to fill its outer energy.

Liquid Awesome As you watch the video, write down each property of water that is mentioned!
