It helpdesk information SPRING semester 2018 University of skövde – www.his.se/EN

on the agenda Your student account Connecting to the internet Computer labs Printing, copying, scanning If you need help helpdesk@his.se

your student account Your student user account is used to access a variety of systems at the university Follow the rules: www.his.se/userrules Change your password Trouble? Visit www.his.se/helpit Activating your student account is important since it’s used to access most systems at the university, including your course sites in the learning platform Scio. To those of you who haven’t activated your student account yet, come see us after this presentation if you need any assistance. When retrieving a student account, you agree to abide by the user rules. They’re pretty standard but please read them if you haven’t already. You can find them on the University webpage, his.se/userrules For security reasons we recommend that you change your password. You can change it on a computer at the university, or in the web mail, his.se/webmail. Passwords have to be at least 8 characters, contain upper and lower case letters, at least one number, and you can’t assign a password containing your real name or user name. If you’re having any trouble, visit his.se/helpit or contact helpdesk. Helpit is our self-service portal with lots of guides for all kinds of it-related issues. helpdesk@his.se

Connecting to the internet Internet access is available on university computers Your own devices? Connect to eduroam Log in with your username@his.se (not @student.his.se!) and your student account password Trouble? Visit www.his.se/helpit There are computers available throughout the university in some hallways, in computer labs and in the library. Your student account can be used to access these computers. I will tell you where to find computer labs on the next slide. If you want to use your own devices, such as laptops or cellphones, you can use your student account to log into eduroam. Eduroam is a world-wide service for internet access. As long as your student account on university of Skövde is active, you can use it to log in to eduroam anywhere in the world. Make sure you enter username@his.se, since neither only your username nor the suffix student.his.se will work – in other words, only his.se after the at-sign If you’re having trouble connecting, there are a lot of guides on helpit. The most common issues are: having entered the username incorrectly, or that the correct certificate has not been installed. helpdesk@his.se

Computer labs Computer labs are located in buildings A, D, E, G, Portalen and the library. Keep them tidy! You can enter with a code or an access card. Codes and application forms for access cards are both available at the student web portal (Studentportalen) Retrieve your access card at the repro center in building A Use your student account to log in to the computers Standard software is installed on all computers Specific software is listed on www.his.se/helpit There are computer labs available for students in buildings A, D, E, G, Portalen and the library. Please keep them tidy and remember that it is not allowed to move equipment around. To enter the computer labs, you need either a code or an access card. Codes are available at Studentportalen. To retrieve an access card you will have to fill out an application, also available at Studentportalen. When your card is ready, you may pick it up at the repro center in building A. As I mentioned before, use your student account to log in to the computers. Standard software such as MS office, adobe master collection, 7-zip is installed on all computers. Other applications are available in different computer labs. (There are posters outside the labs where you can se what software is available where.) You can also see the list on helpit. helpdesk@his.se

Printing, copying, scanning Select printer FollowYou Log in on the printer with your student account You can buy more print quota on equitrac.his.se Printing from your own computer is possible with IPP Guides and IPP installers are available on his.se/helpit If you want to print or copy on the printers at the university, you need to enter your student account credentials. When you print, select the printer FollowYou – which should be default on student computers Printers are located in most buildings The first time you log in on a printer you will receive 50 SEK print quota. Should you need more, you can buy additional print quota on equitrac.his.se, which requires a paypal account. You can use IPP if you want to print from your own computer when you’re at school More info on Helpit as usual! helpdesk@his.se
