L.O. To explore similarities and differences within the class TLN Identity Pack L1

Find a partner to sit with BUT this must be someone you don’t know as well in the class. See if you can find the following things…

Visible similarities Things we have in common Visible differences Things that are unique about us Invisible similarities Things we have in common Invisible differences Things that are unique about us

Did you find out anything that surprised you about your partner or anyone else in the class?

”the skin I’m in looks good to me ”the skin I’m in looks good to me. It will let you know one small trace of my identity…it cannot tell my story. Skin Again by Bell Hooks

WHAT IS IMPORTANT ABOUT YOU? Favourite lesson Beliefs/faith group Books Toys Games Languages you speak Favourite colour. TV Favourite food What else? Pets Personality Music Sports Customs Family Hopes Fears Toys

One way of showing all that is important to us, is by creating an Identity Circle. We can use this to write and draw the different aspects of our identity.

Here is an example of an Identity Circle… Uzair’s Identity Circle

- your age - games you like to play - books you like to read Before you create an Identity Circle of your own, with your partner share some ideas of the things you would like to include. Here are some ideas to get you started: - your age - games you like to play - books you like to read - things you like to do in your spare time - things you have done that you are proud of places you like to visit food you like to eat place you were born people you like to spend time with your favourite film songs you like to sing

L.O. To create an Identity Circle of the things that have played a part in who I am. Think carefully about the things that are most important to you or are an important part of who you are. Mind-map these ideas using pictures or words or both. Think about how to make each idea stand out.

Share your Identity Circle with your group. Can you use your Identity Circle to talk about what or who has been the biggest influence on your identity? Can you find something you have in common with others in your group? Can you find something that makes you unique/individual from your group?

What would it be like if everyone was the same?

Could someone else make an Identity Circle for you?

Would you like someone else to describe your identity for you? Is it ok to label other people before we’ve had the chance to find out more about them? Have you ever been called a name you didn’t like?

Do you have a photograph or an object which you can use to tell a story about yourself? If so, bring it in for next lesson so that you can share this with everyone else. Only bring in something you feel comfortable in sharing with others.
