The Church in Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11)

#1 Specific aspect of the revelation of Jesus for Smyrna Who is the First and the Last Who died and came to life again

#2 True condition (“I know…”) Nothing is hidden Even if they don’t know “I know” your afflictions and poverty- I experienced it. I have been put to death

#3 Commendation They are afflicted/persecuted They are poor yet are rich They are being slandered (by those claiming to be God’s people) #4 Correction (NONE) Persecution has purified/ purged the church

#5 Encouragement Do not fear! (More is coming) 10 days Limited in scope 10 is also viewed as a complete number (as is 3, 7, and 12) 10 signifies complete testing or trial to the limit

#5 Encouragement Do not fear! (More is coming) Be faithful! The crown of life

#6 Listen up! “He who has an ear” The Spirit says this #7 His promise “To him who overcomes” Not experience second death Resurrection is theirs!

#1 Specific aspect of the revelation of Jesus for Pergamum Sharp double-edged sword coming from His mouth Ready to fight against them with this sword (vs. 16) Protection from error

#2 True condition (“I know…”) Nothing is hidden Even if they don’t know “I know” where you live— where Satan has his throne

#3 Commendation They remained true to “My name” They have not renounced their faith in Christ Even when witnessing Antipas’ martyrdom Even in their surroundings (Satan’s influence around them)

#4 Correction Love of the world - “Friendship with the world is enmity with God” (James 4:4) Did not address error in the church The church has a responsibility to address and deal with sin, not to create comfort

#5 Encouragement Repent! Compromise is so serious Jesus says if you don't stop, “I will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.”

#6 Listen up! “He who has an ear” The Spirit says this #7 His promise “To him who overcomes” Hidden manna - His church feeds forever on the presence of Jesus Christ White stone with a new name
