Running out of fuel This activity explores how we need to keep replenishing fuel to keep going. Guzzler goes for a drive and runs out of petrol. Questions for discussion: What do you see in the picture? Why is Guzzler sitting down on the pavement? Why is he not riding his bike? How does Guzzler look? How do you think he feels? Why does he feel like that? What can he do to feel better?

Going on a journey: Guzzler wakes up early one morning. He is very excited. He is going to visit his friend who lives a long distance away. Questions for discussion: What do you see in the picture? Where is Guzzler going? Why is he going to the filling station? What will he get at the filling station? Can you name 2 common types of fuel that people put in their cars? How will he put the fuel in the car? Can he drive off after filling the tank or does he need to go into the shop to do something? (Pay) What time of day is it? How do you know? Using the Arrow tool, drive Guzzler's car to the filling station

How much fuel has Guzzler in the tank? What does the letter E stand for? What does the letter F stand for? Where is the fuel gauge lever? When Guzzler is driving, he drives slowly and carefully so he can look at the lovely views of the countryside. He drives for a very long time, passing houses and trees, fields and buildings. Questions for discussion: What does Guzzler see? What time of day is it now? How do you know it has changed?

Questions for discussion: What does Guzzler see? What time of day is it now? How do you know it has changed How much fuel has Guzzler left in the tank? Why is the tank no longer at F for Full? How has the fuel gauge changed? Is the lever at F? Is it at E? Where is the lever?

Guzzler continues to drive for a very long time on his journey. What time of day is it now? How do you know it has changed? Guzzler drives his car up the hill. All of a sudden Guzzler’s car stops. What do you think has happened to Guzzler’s car? Why do you think Guzzler’s car has stopped? How has the fuel gauge changed? How much fuel has Guzzler left in the tank? Where is the lever? What does the letter E stand for? What does Guzzler need to do in order to get the car moving again? (get fuel / energy)

Looking back: Remember in an earlier picture we saw Guzzler eating his dinner? He had lots of energy. Questions for discussion: From where do you think Guzzler got his energy? What happened when he did not eat his dinner? Did he have much energy to play? Why not? What happens when you don’t eat your dinner? (you have no energy) Does he want to play with his toys? Why not? What does Guzzler need to do to feel better?
