Social Wellness

What is Social Wellness? Social wellness is the ability to build personal connections with others, deal with conflict and be a part of a positive social network.

Signs of Social Wellness Have a supportive network of family and friends Create boundaries within relationships that encourage communication, trust, and conflict management Value diversity and treat others with respect Development of assertive skills Balancing social and personal time Ability to be yourself in all situations Continually able to maintain and develop friendships and social networks

Appropriate Communication Appropriate communication is necessary to properly convey your thoughts, ideas, needs, and wants to others in your professional and personal life Clear communication will help to manage your time and your life

Healthy Relationships Healthy relationships of all types (coworker, romantic, friendship, family) are essential to your overall wellness Clear communication is crucial to maintaining healthy productive relationships

Stress Management Stress is a part of life You must learn how to cope with all kinds of stressors, positive (eustress) or negative (distress) Adaptations and responses to stressors vary, so it is okay to find a different way that works for you

Conflict Management Find a way to resolve differences in a healthy and constructive way. If you are stuck in a conflict with someone, you may need to try some resolution strategies Collaborate: this allows you both to have input on the solution while still achieving the main goal. Compromising: Being willing to bend on some areas while recognizing that others are doing the same for you to accomplish the larger goal.
