Presentation transcript:

Genesis was established in 1990 and was set up as a faith based organization, with one lady who would go out on the beat and meet women who were sex working, befriending them, giving them a friendly ear, and offering coffee etc. Genesis is no longer faith based and now has 3 full time workers. One post works with women who are currently sex working and helps supports them with a variety of issues, but focusing on safety - including the National Ugly Mugs scheme, sexual health, and support. The new futures project aims to support women who have identified that they want to make positive changes in their life, that could be reducing drug use and getting on a script, moving on from sex work and looking at education, volunteering / work opportunities. Our newest post in the adult team is a specialized housing and benefit role. Isis was established in 1997 as a direct result form seeing girls as young as 15 and 16 out on the beat. We no longer see young people out on the beat, and we are confident that the women working would tell us if there were any young people or particular venerable people on the beat. The exploitation has moved indoors, and the young person’s team has developed tools and resources to work with the changed models of grooming over the years. The young person’s team was rebranded to be called Isis in 2012 as we wanted to insure that we were seen as two separate services, and that we were not taking about young people being prostitutes, but rather sexual exploited children. Basis is the social enterprise arm of the charity. Basis is a direct result of the funding cuts we suffered a few years ago, we decided that we needed a was of becoming self sufficient, so all the profits that are made from delivering awareness raising to young people, delivering training to professionals and our consultancy work goes back into funding front line pratictioners.
