Gr.10 Foundations Math This might be a good choice for you if: You aren’t going to university or the university program you are interested in doesn’t require academic math You have found math difficult and have struggled with it at times in previous grades, but ultimately were successful You aren’t willing to work at the level that academic requires (i.e. daily homework/studying), but feel you are capable of doing the same topics as academic at a slightly lower level You are seeking a math course at a higher level than strictly graduation level You will maintain a good attendance record You are willing to work through difficulties you may encounter You have a positive attitude towards school and math

Gr.10 Foundations Math Avon View Course Registration Handbook Math Foundations 10 (MatFnd10, Grad) Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mathematics Grade 9.  This course is for students not planning to pursue post secondary programs that require academic math and/or students who find math difficult or who have had difficulties in previous years.  This course is also a good choice for students who are not willing to meet the workload requirements of academic math.  Although the topics studied will be similar, expectations in terms of homework and pace will not be as great.

Gr.10 Foundations Math “Mathematics Foundations 10 is designed for students who want to maintain a high standard of mathematics but who do not intend to enter post-secondary programs that require academic math” (N.S. Dept. of Ed. 2005)

Gr.10 Foundations Math The topics in foundations will be similar to those in academic - Data Management/Statistics (creating, presenting and analyzing data) - Networks and Matrices - Algebra (What is algebra? creating and using algebra, solving equations, intersection points, multiplying polynomials, factoring) - Graphing - Relations and Functions - Square roots - Trigonometry however the expectations in terms of workload, pace and difficulty level will not be as great. Please ask questions if you are unsure about what math course is for you.
