SDL SDL = Self-Directed Learning for compulsory courses (Essential Math Stream only) Students CANNOT sign up for SDL through online registration ALL STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN SDL, AND NEEDING TO CONTINUE, MUST SEE MR. SILER OR MS. KLASSEN TO COMPLETE THEIR REGISTRATION (please come in this week to avoid delays) Students opting into SDL for the first time will need to wait until the end of the course change process (June 2018) to inquire about enrolling.

RRTVA www.RRTVA.ca If interested, APPLY! Submit RRTVA Intent Form to the office. Priority system: Preference by grade level, but also by wait list. Most programs are now two levels, so it’s possible to start a program in grade 11 or 12 (finish one after graduation for free). Compulsory courses are in one semester; RRTVA in the other. Carpentry, Piping, and Autobody – only open to grade 11 and 12 students. **NEW** Introduction to Construction Technology (ICT) One semester RRTVA program Learn basic carpentry and piping skills

HSAP HSAP = High School Apprenticeship Program If you are working a trade related job, you could also earn credits. (Yes, you can be PAID and earn CREDITS)! Up to 8 grade 12 credits toward graduation Need to be 16 years old to qualify Speak with a guidance counsellor WORK MUST BE APPROVED BY SCHOOL AND HSAP COORDINATOR BEFORE COUNTING HOURS/CREDITS!

Cadet Credits Students can earn up to two credits for successful completion of the Cadet basic and advanced training programs. Note: These credits are recognized only as additional credits beyond the minimum 30 credits required for high school graduation.

Special Language Credit Are you fluent in languages other than English and French? You may earn up to four language credits by writing a language exam. Special language exams will take place once or twice per year. Watch the Flight Plan for announcements.

GET INVOLVED! Many scholarships ask how you’ve been involved in your school and community, and how you’ve shown leadership Some college and university programs also require related volunteer or work experience School clubs (we have many), sports, Student Council. Volunteer! Did you know you can earn a Community Service Credit in high school? (You must speak with Guidance and complete a form before counting hours!) 110 hours = 1 credit (or two ½ credits)

SCHOLARSHIPS Involvement in school and community Demonstrate leadership Good academic standing

Reminders Which math should I take? (Intro to Applied & Pre-Cal, or Essential Math). YES you can take both! Intro to Applied & Pre-Cal will keep more “options open”. If you take an RRTVA program, you will have your compulsory courses in one semester, and RRTVA in the other. Take a minimum of eight courses!
