Hearing Ranges Humans can hear frequencies of sounds between 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Whales, dolphins, bats, and dogs can hear and produce higher frequency sounds than humans.
S.O.N.A.R. A method used by boats to locate objects underwater. A sound is emitted and the sound bounces off of objects and returns to a computer that measures the location of the object.
Echolocation A way of using sound to find objects in the environment Animals generate a sound pulse The sound bounces off of objects creating an echo that returns to the animal. Different objects give off different kinds of echoes. Dolphins and bats use echolocation.
