Our experience Social enterprises are particularly transformative when led by individuals from the community they serve, with first-hand experience of the problem they seek to address. Despite significantly expanding the number of social entrepreneurs we work with, our outreach into certain communities has not been as wide. Partnership is key: Partners act as familiar faces + points of contact, providing first hand guidance and support.

SSE Local Taster sessions: 40 participants in total 1 held in the borough of Newham (community partner – Shpresa Programme), 1 held in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea (community partner – Clement James Centre) People feel encouraged and inspired to explore the possibility of becoming a social entrepreneur, and making changes in their community Three day pre-start up programme: 20 participants in total Over a two-month period in their local communities. Participants acquire the confidence and skills required, to explore the possibility of starting their own social enterprise. SSE Fellowship programme Open recruitment process Social entrepreneurs will be learning alongside and able to network with other social entrepreneurs from different backgrounds.

Finally … Match Trading SSE realised that we are part of a problem, offering grants in a manner which did not align with social ventures trading aspirations Reward social enterprises for increasing their trading/‘earned’ income Grants paid out £ for £ against an uplift in trading income
