Andy Shaw Director of Volunteering and Business Delivery

Improving your Volunteer Experience

How? Talk around listening, talking, important to hear what you, our volunteers have to say. Also – what works well elsewhere Acutely aware of pressures on volunteers …. That is why ……

Story so far…. Branding Volunteer web pages Workshops Health and Safety Continue to build and develop What have we delivered – talk through 5 or 6 key initiatives introduced Branding – delivered to most vols some branded merchandise. Important to raise identity of volunteering and to show our value to volunteers. I want you to feel part of a team. Volunteer web pages – now complete clear, more concise, more informative, easier to find things. Library of all important documents. Workshops – AA and Treasurer Training. F2F delivery. Best way but its time consuming and expensive. I’ve asked the VSAs to go out and do some F2F with you e.g. data security, Health and Safety for national and regional events. Training for some key volunteers and staff to be provided. Building and developing the great work we started a couple of years ago … induction, review of volunteer handbook, QS …. More in a moment …. HO Vol Awareness

What are we currently working on? Volunteer database Trips policy Training initiatives Information for Insurance Act Again talk through 4 or 5 key initiatives Volunteer database Trips policy – paper to SLC for consideration. Looking to come out with a solution in new year. Very important we get this right. Training initiatives – looking to build on the good work already started. Potential workshops - marketing, finances, H and S Information gathering for Insurance Act – we need to do this to comply with legislation. We have very little information in HO on what you do locally. Appreciate it’s a big task. Happy to help – that’s what we are there for. Telephone Alastair, Karina, VSAs – ask them for help. I know some of you in this room have done that. Use the VSAs – If we don’t know we’ll find the answer. Continue to improve volunteer support - know we have more to do …. Working on it!

What is planned? National Conference More branding QS – Phase 3 Partnership Framework Recruitment Strategy Pause at this point and ask them what they would like to see. Talk around 4 or 5 key initiatives in development National Conference – building on success of previous years. Workshop style initiatives instead of good practice and focus group sessions. Looking to make them informative and interactive. ….. Longer periods …. Practical engagement.. More branding. QS – Phase 3. Established as part of Partnership Framework. Delayed due to resourcing. Continue to develop concept. Expect delivery during 2017. two sided framework – what can we do to support you and how can you Recruitment Strategy – important piece of work. How to encourage more volunteers. Working with NCVO. Need to embrace changing face of volunteering.
