Figure 1 Activated CD8+ T Cells Recruit Two Types of DCs Upon viral infection, CD8+ T cells recognize viral peptides presented by infected DCs. Antigen-primed CD8+ T cells secrete MIP-1 (CCL3-CCL4 dimer) and XCL1, which recruit pDCs via CCR5 and XCR1+ DCs via XCR1, respectively. Local secretion of IFN-α by pDCs improves expression of costimulatory molecules by XCR1+ DCs, which in turn optimizes activation of CD8+ lymphocytes.
