Dutch electric vehicles user experiences Nazir Refa – Data Manager nazir.refa@elaad.nl Dutch electric vehicles user experiences

How to reach the 1M target?

Survey setup & objective Survey recipients Respondents Response rate 1300 EV users 199 PHEV users 22% 87 FEV users Hoge response rate

Socio-demographics Typical EV user is: well educated middle age male high income

EV drivers are positive about solar, wind and self driving cars SOLAR BECOMES CHEAPER THAN COAL WIND BECOMES CHEAPER THAN COAL SELF DRIVING CARS WITHIN 10 YEARS WANT TO OWN SELF DRIVING CARS

EV drivers: pioneers & environmentally friendly people PIONEER IN NEW TECHNOLOGIES ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PERSON

Why EV? Being technologically innovative & low fixed costs BEING TECHNOLICALLY INNOVATIVE LOW FIXED COSTS (E.G. TAXES)

EV drives ‘nicer’ and the sound of gasoline cars is neither missed or needed EV DRIVES ‘NICER’ THAN GASOLINE CAR MISS THE SOUND IN THE EV SHOULD WE EQUIP EVS WITH WARNING SOUND?

Owners of FEVs promote & recommend their vehicles more frequently I ALLOW OTHERS TO TRY MY EV I RECOMMEND EVS TO OTHERS

PHEV owners are less satisfied with the battery range THE RANGE OF MY CURRENT EV IS …

EV drivers demand an average battery range of … km? Average: 375 km

EV drivers ‘get’ Smart charging but demand ‘overruling’ I WANT TO BE ABLE TO ‘OVERRULE’ SMART CHARGING AVOIDS OVERLOADING SMART CHARGING STIMULATES RENEWABLES

Fast charging increases the range but it will not replace ‘slow’ charging points FAST CHARGING REPLACES PUBLIC CHARGING FAST CHARGING INCREASES THE RANGE OF EVS OFTEN FAST CHARGING INSTEAD OF HOME/WORK

NEXT STEPS
