Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact Once the Project Plan Has Been Approved by a Project Steering Team… Assemble a Team of Approved Master Performers for the Conduct of the 10 Steps Across the 6 Phases Those 10 Steps might be able to be completed in just 3 meetings – if the content is fairly simple and templates are available for use. More meetings may otherwise be required. As always – It depends. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 1. Conduct an Analysis of the Performance Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Define the Target Audience and their incoming K/Ss and the variances Create a Model Of Performance indentifying the Outputs & Measures, Tasks & Measures, Roles & Responsibilities, Typical Gaps & Probable Causes. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 2. Conduct an Analysis of the Enabling Knowledge/Skills Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Systematically Derive the enabling Knowledge/Skills required to Perform the Tasks to Produce the Outputs to meet the Measurement requirements of the various Stakeholders. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 3. Define the Learning Objectives & Lessons Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Define all of the Learning Objectives given the Performance data and enabling K/S data identified previously. Determine the number of Lessons needed Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 4. Define the Application Exercises Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Define the APPOs, the Application Exercise(s), needed to develop Performance Competence, with increasing difficulty and/or dealing with different aspects/issues typical of the authentic Performance Context the Performers will face back on the job. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 5. Determine the Need for Demonstrations – or Not Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Determine the need for and then if appropriate, the number of DEMOs, the Demonstrations, needed to prepare the learners/Performers for successful participation in the Application Exercises. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 6. Define and Chunk the Information Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Sort and sequence and then group all of the Performance data and K/S data into INFO chunks to prepare the learners/Performers for the DEMOs and APPOs. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 7. Develop the INFOs-DEMOs-APPOs Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Develop the Content of the APPOs first, and then the DEMOs, and finally the INFOs in a backward chain, keeping the amount of context to the bare bones minimum (so to speak). * If the Demos will be produced as a video or as an elearning segment – they might be created after Step 8 to avoid expensive ReWork. The same with the APPOs and INFOs. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact Conduct an Alpha Test Fix that! Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Ask other Master Performers to review the INFO, DEMO and APPO Content for their completeness, accuracy and appropriateness and update as necessary. Repeat these steps if the amount of changes necessary and the risks/costs of performance failure warrant. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 9. Conduct a Beta Test/ Pilot Test Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Deliver/Deploy/Use the first iteration of the “Final Product” to a group of other Master Performers and to a group of Target Audience members and conduct extensive evaluations. The Master Performers can help you “test for” Content Accuracy, Completeness and Appropriateness – but they cannot help you “test/measure” whether Learning occurred. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 10. Revise & Release Facilitate a Team of Master Performers to… Update the INFOs, DEMOs, and APPOs as the Pilot Test Results dictate. Release the updated Content i/nto the appropriate Deployment/Access/Master Files systems for learner use and for Instructors/Facilitators use and for Content maintenance and version control. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact 10 Steps – Adapted from the PACT Processes for MCD – Modular Curriculum Development Conduct an Analysis of the Performance Conduct an Analysis of the Enabling Knowledge/Skills Define the Learning Objectives & Lessons Define the Application Exercises Determine the Need for Demonstrations – or Not Define and Chunk the Information Develop the INFOs-DEMOs-APPOs Conduct an Alpha Test Conduct a Beta Test/ Pilot Test Revise & Release Analysis Design Develop Pilot-Test Revise & Release Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz

Developing L&D Content for Performance Impact These 10 Steps Are Adapted from the PACT Processes for MCD – Modular Curriculum Development – which might follow a CAD – Curriculum Architecture Design effort to create L&D Paths. MCD can be conducted without a preceding CAD effort. Guy W. Wallace Pursuing Performance EPPIC Inc. www.eppic.biz
