Presentation transcript:

Battle of the Books 2017-18

Teams of 4-6 people read a selection of books Teams of 4-6 people read a selection of books. Each team member reads 1 or 2 books.

Team members commit to the challenge!

They read the books.

They take notes about the books.

So they can answer questions….

They BATTLE another team. The winner moves on to the next round.

What happens in a battle? There are three rounds: In the book…? In which book…? The Lightning Round. Buzz in as fast as you can to answer the questions You have to know the title and author to score the points! What happens in a battle? Teams are asked a series of questions about the books. The judges keep score. The team with the most points at the end of the battle moves on to the next round.

Grade 3-5 Books

Frequently asked questions Can we have a mixed team (classes, grades)? ABSOLUTELY! We prefer teams be mixed between classes and grades. Does each member have to read a set number of books? Ideally, each member will read 2-3 books from the list. However, your team will decide who reads which books. The more people who read the books, the better the chances your team will know the answers to the questions.

Frequently asked questions What happens if a team member drops out? We hope this doesn’t happen. But, if it does, your team carries on. If your team becomes too small, you will be placed on other teams. When will the Battles take place? Battles will take place in March. Will we battle Prairie Waters? You bet! We have to defend our title!

Are you ready to accept the challenge? Do you have a team?

What do you need to do next? Pick your team. Your team can be all from one class. Or, you can mix it up and get to know people from other classes and grades!

What do you need to do next? 2. Get the forms from Mrs. Gunn.

What do you need to do next? 3. Fill out the forms with your teammates. Decide who will read which books. (We recommend more than one team member read each book.)

What do you need to do next? 4. Give the forms to Mme Waite or Mrs Gunn. Make sure you have put your last names and classes.

What do you need to do next? 5. Visit the library (East Lake or the Public ones). Get one of the books you need to read.

What do you need to do next? 6. READ! READ! READ! READ! (Don’t forget to take notes!)

Battles will begin in March… Will you be ready?
