Lab Equipment You are responsible for being able to identify and describe the function of the following pieces of lab equipment
1. Triple Beam Balance Used to measure the mass of objects.
2. Beakers Used for pouring, mixing, and heating substances. NOT MEASURING!
3. Beaker Tongs used to move hot beakers off a heating surface
4. Hot Plates Uses electricity to heat substances
5. Graduated Cylinders Measuring small and large amounts of liquids
6. Stirring Rod used to mix solutions and crush up chemicals
7. Scoopula used to transfer solid materials from one container to another
8. Crucible Used to heat and dehydrate small amounts of a substance
9. Crucible Tongs used to handle crucibles
10. Test Tube used to perform small experiments and mixing small amounts of substances
11. Test Tube Rack Stores and holds test tubes when not handling.
12. Test Tube Holder Allows you to hold the test tube while heating it.
13. Bunsen Burner Used for heating substances with an open flame. Also used to sterilize equipment
14. Thermometer Used to measure the temperature of solutions and objects. We use degrees Celsius.
15. Flasks A narrow-mouthed glass container used to transport heat or store substances, when a stopper is required
16. Rubber Stoppers Used to cover test tubes and flasks while shaking or in storage.
Used to view small specimens for study. 17. Microscope Used to view small specimens for study.
Used to hold small specimens while viewing them under a microscope 18. Microscope Slide Used to hold small specimens while viewing them under a microscope
