Pens/crayons LEADER NOTES The Bear Scouts need to organize a carnival for the GRIN & BEAR IT adventure. However, it may work well to combine this idea with your plans for a Blue and Gold celebration. The carnival games can be “gathering” type activities at the beginning of the evening, with people coming a bit “early” to take part. No need to be elaborate, and you can do the games with whatever theme you pick for your Blue and Gold … just change the names to go with the theme … for example, Ring Toss could become “SATURN’s RINGS!”. Or pick games that go with your theme (Ol’ West, Adventure, etc.).

CARNIVAL TIME Meeting Plan GATHERING (5 minutes) As Scouts enter, give them a WORD SEARCH puzzle and a crayon/pen, and get them busy on the task as they sit down. OPENING (4 minutes): Flag Ceremony/Pledge of Allegiance/Scout Oath and Law (consider dispensing with a formal flag ceremony and simply to the Pledge/Oath/Law standing in place to save time) Scout Law POINT OF THE WEEK: FRIENDLY. A SCOUT IS FRIENDLY. A Scout seeks to welcome others at all times. What better way to make new friends then to invite them to a CARNIVAL!

LEADER NOTES -- CARNIVAL TIME This is one where you can pretty much decide how much you want to do, how many games, what type, etc. The BEAR HANDBOOK has some ideas, and of course, you can just GOOGLE “CARNIVAL GAMES” or look on PINTEREST. Keep in mind, the games can be very simple … like a “guess the birthday month” “booth”. You may want simple prizes, like a piece of candy … or a token of some sort. You could even pass out pennies as a prize! The key is to let the BEARS take some ownership of the project. You can have them make the games, and have the other dens just make some B&G decorations or place mats. Or each den could be responsible for a game. Give them some structure to work within and see what ideas they have. You can even tell them to only use things they can bring from home … or from items normally thrown away (soda cans/bottles, paper towel rolls, etc.). They need to present an award or trophy to some adult as part of this. Of course, honoring you, their valued leader comes to mind. But they could also honor a parent who’s been helping out or a teacher or even the principal. It’s a nice idea to be sure to INVITE the principal to the B&G. Of course, they can honor MORE THAN ONE PERSON!!!! Lastly, they need to AFTER THE FACT .. Conduct a START, STOP, CONTINUE. This is something that you can do with the whole Pack at the next meeting, or just have the BEARS participate. If you choose the latter, you can even do it at the very end of the B&G while other dens are helping to clean up. It only will take a few minutes. Please CALL ME if you need ideas.
