Zones of Regulation

WHAT ARE THE ZONES? There are four zones to describe how your brain and body feel. It is okay to be in all zones sometimes. There is no ‘bad’ zone. Our goal is to identify our feelings and thoughts so we can self- regulate into the green zone.

The Zones Introduction The Zones by Rachel Rodia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGQwBsajCzQ

Blue Zone Your body is running slow, such as when you are tired, sick, sad or bored. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5c1gIzQoPI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6pBo6fKZAA

Green Zone Like a green light, you are “good to go.” You body may feel happy, calm and focused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_ODFtJckRQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVfr868E_5s

Yellow Zone This zone describes when you start to loose control, such as when you are frustrated, anxious, worried, silly or surprised. Use caution when you are in this zone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZfOsg3UWwQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8Cwaay2gxs

Red Zone This zone is for extreme emotions such as anger, terror and aggression. When you are in this zone, you are out of control, have trouble making good decisions and must STOP! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ivo1JGv_eh4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWEQsD973OU

Just Breathe Video: Strategies Deep breathing Be alone/walk away Close eyes Walking/stomping line Counting to 10 Think before you speak! When you use your strategies, your brain slows down so that you feel calm and are ready to talk. You will go from the red zone to the green zone!

Triggers Triggers are things that bother us that may cause us to become less regulated. We may go into the yellow or red zones. Zone Tools Blue Zone tools help us wake up our bodies, feel better, and regain focus. Green Zone tools help us stay calm, focused and feeling good. These are often proactive strategies. Yellow Zone tools help us regain control and calm ourselves. Red Zone tools help us stay safe and start to calm down.

Stop, Opt, and Go STOP Stop before you act. OPT Think of all your options and how they will work out. GO Go with your best options. **See PowerPoint Presentation on Stop, Opt, and Go Inside Out**
