Scientific Method Practice Quiz

What is Science?

Answer: A process through which nature is studied, discovered, and understood. All areas of science involve posing inquiries (questions) about nature. It is… a way of knowing!!! (YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS)

What is the Nature of Science? What was the point of the Checks Lab?

Answer Science is never finished Science is always changing, information is discovered over time. New information can change everything about our prior knowledge Peer reviews help to develop scientific information. Communication leads to discoveries.

What is the Scientific Method?

Answer: a method of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data and information is gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from that information, and the hypothesis is empirically tested, data is analyzed and a conclusion is formulated.

List the Steps of the Scientific Method.

Answer: Ask a question/state a problem. Research about that question. Make a Hypothesis. (usually an If… Then... Statement) Test that Hypothesis. Collect, measure and analyze data. Make a conclusion. Communicate results.

Practice Questions…

Fred formed his hypothesis and has tested it. What happens next? Collect Information Find a problem Make a conclusion Record and analyze data

Answer: Record and analyze data.

If Jimmy is ready to make a hypothesis, which of the following should he have previously completed? Record data Make a conclusion Observed an event Test a hypothesis

Answer: Observed an event.

What is the last step in the scientific method What is the last step in the scientific method? (It is a very important part) Find a problem Make a conclusion Test a hypothesis Form a hypothesis

Answer: Make a conclusion.

What has to happen before a researcher can make a conclusion? Find a problem Form a hypothesis Collect and analyze data All of the above

Answer: All of the Above.

How many variables should be changed or tested in an experiment How many variables should be changed or tested in an experiment? And Why? All but one of them None of them One of them All of them

Answer: One of them. Why? To make sure that the data is a result of the change in the single variable.
