Strategic Planning at Sunnybrook Creating a sustainable future for the organization and those we serve

Chapter One An Introduction

Strategic Planning Cycle next Strategic Planning Cycle Information gathering and consultation to develop plan 1 Sunnybrook has a three-year strategic planning cycle. 3 2 Three years may seem short for some industries but in health care, the planning horizon for change is about three years. Evaluate implementation based on internal and external factors and re-set plan Implement over three years

Planning timeline for this cycle next Planning timeline for this cycle Our information gathering, analysis and final presentation to the Board of Directors will take place from autumn 2013 to spring 2014. Information gathering (September – November) 1 Analysis and Recommendations (December – February) 2 Report to the Board and Implement (April – May 2014) 3

next Each cycle is unique Planning is essentially an ongoing process and we gather information from multiple sources to inform the strategic decisions our Board of Directors sets for the hospital. The health care system is constantly evolving with the changing needs of the many communities we serve.

What informs strategic decision making? next What informs strategic decision making? It is a process of examining everything from the state of the economy and government revenue, to understanding the changing health needs of society and the requirements of our patient populations. We look at who our patients are now and who they might be in the future and try to determine, based on our available resources, how we can best serve those who will benefit most from our programs and services. Quite a bit actually.

How can you participate? next How can you participate? On this site, we will pose several key strategic questions throughout the planning cycle and ask for your input. Throughout this cycle, we will be asking for your input on important issues such as what our future goals should be and what should we continue to focus on as a hospital dedicated to research, teaching and providing specialized patient care. As a member of our community or as an interested member of the public, we welcome your feedback. You can leave feedback on this site in the comments section below or you can email us at strategicplan2014@sunnybrook.ca
